Funding Opportunity 3: Undergraduate/Graduate Research/Creativity Support Fund

Applications accepted throughout the year!

Amount: Up to $500

Use: One-time award to support students' project-related costs not supported via other programs.
Number of available awards: Up to 10 (Total: $5,000)

Application Description:

The Office for Student Research and Creativity (OSRC) at John Jay College provides financial assistance to undergraduate and graduate students, or their faculty mentors, to support their research/creative projects. Funds of up to $500 may be requested on a one time basis to cover costs directly associated with student work on a faculty mentored project. Funds must be directly tied to the completion of the student research or creative work. Faculty provided project supply money through other John Jay programs (PRISM, McNair, etc.) for the same student and project are not eligible. Current OSRC scholarship recipients are not eligible for this award. For faculty working with cohorts of multiple students, OSRC will consider larger requests for support.

Support Fund applications may be submitted any time during the academic year. Applications will be reviewed once per month with the review cycle tied to the first of the month. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Please submit all applications to Bettina Muenster, Office for Student Research & Creativity (OSRC), osrc@jjay.cuny.edu (Room 204.01HH).

Application process:

Both the student and the faculty must submit an application form (click on "student" or "faculty" respectively), including a brief description of the project, an outline of the student involvement in the project, the number of students involved, a justification for the funds, and any documentation needed to support the request. Funds must be requested before the work is conducted.

Funds may be used for a variety of research/creative related costs, including:

  • Student travel within the five NYC boroughs (i.e., metro cards for student participation at conferences or attendance at project-related events);
  • Incentives for research with human subjects;
  • Printing (including posters for presentations, but not for annual Expo presentations);
  • General research/creative supplies;
  • Data collection fees;
  • Software programs.

Other requests, not listed above, will be considered and are subject to the approval by the Assistant Director.

Funds may not be used for:

  • Student travel to national conferences or events outside NYC;
  • Posters or other printing for the annual Research & Creativity week.
  • Food supplies for events.

Please contact osrc@jjay.cuny.edu with any questions.
