U.S.News & World Report Ranks John Jay 56th Best Masters Of Public Affairs Program Of 270 Nationwide

Two Specializations in Top 30 

MPA Specialization in Emergency Management Ties with Columbia & USC 
MPA Overall Ranks 56th of 270 Programs Nationwide

Two Masters of Public Administration specializations at John Jay College of Criminal Justice were ranked in the top 30 in the country by U.S.News & World Report, with one tying programs at Columbia and USC.

The MPA program overall, was ranked 56th out of 270 programs across the country in a survey of deans, directors and department chairs from master's programs in public affairs and administration.

Two specializations within John Jay’s Masters in Public Policy and Administration also received special recognition. In the category for Homeland Security and Emergency Management, the specialization in Emergency Management ranked 11th.

For the category of Public Management and Leadership, John Jay’s Masters specialization in Management and Operations ranked 27th in the national survey.

“Our program is dedicated to promoting integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, governance, and justice in society, and we will continue to endeavor to achieve this by offering an accessible high-quality public affairs education with cutting-edge research and policy engagement, said Program Director and Professor Elaine Yi Lu.”

The college also offers a Masters in Inspection and Oversight (IO), the only one of its kind in the country accredited by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA).

"Teaching about auditing, monitoring, and evaluating institutions, as well as examining corruption, and regulating behaviors and practices have all become increasingly important,” said Professor Denise Thompson, the program's director. “The steady stream of fraud convictions in government and the mishandling of Covid-19 funds highlights the relevance of the program and the importance of training our future government watchdogs.” 

Several of the courses in the MPA program are cross-taught through the Department of Security, Fire and Emergency Management which also offers a Masters of Science in Emergency Management, and a Graduate Certificate in Advanced Emergency Management Studies. 

U.S.News & World Report also highly ranks several undergraduate John Jay programs, #9 for Top Public Schools, #5 for Social Mobility and Top 20 for Undergraduate Teaching as well as one the Most Innovative Schools
