About the Semester of Service Program 

Semester of Service (SoS) provides opportunities for students to gain meaningful and consistent volunteer experience for the duration of a semester! Students are expected to commit to volunteering once a week at the same community partner site for 10 consecutive weeks.

Expectations of Semester of Service Volunteers 

Participation in the SoS program requires commitment from the volunteers who participate. Volunteers are expected to:

  • Exhibit a commitment to John Jay College, Semester of Service Program and their volunteer site
  • Attend Semester of Service Orientation
  • Log all volunteer hours
  • Complete a mid-semester and end of semester evaluation form
  • Volunteer at the service site every week for the duration of the semester with an opportunity to volunteer on a year long basis with the same community partner. Receive a certificate of completion
