BS in Human Services & Community Justice

John Jay’s commitment to justice and public service anchors the new BS in Human Services and Community Justice (HSCJ).

The HSCJ major, through its specialized courses and real-world experiences, prepares you to become a self-reflective, competent practitioner, community leader, social justice advocate and more. Our faculty are seasoned, licensed clinicians with invaluable real-world experience who work with collaborative support from the Department of Africana Studies.

The Department of Counseling and Human Services is deeply committed to developing and preparing you for a life’s work as a caring professional, advocate and change agent in service to humankind, especially at-risk populations. These ideals are fostered within a dynamic and multi-disciplinary learning environment that celebrates teaching, scholarship, personal development and the creation and integration of knowledge through field work and peer programs.

We're highly dedicated, accomplished and passionate psychologists, social workers, mental health professionals, community advocates and leaders from diverse backgrounds and we bring varying experiences and approaches to our work with students. We seek to create engaging, enriched and empowered classroom and field-work experiences and take great pride in our reputation for teaching excellence and student mentorship.
