Stephen De Stefani ’24 was thrilled to learn that he won John Jay’s 2023 U.S. Coast Guard College Student Pre-Commissioning Initiative (CSPI) Scholarship. De Stefani is making the most of his time at John Jay, “I’ve taken some really interesting courses in police ethics, police use of force, emergency management, and maritime security—all of which have furthered my interest in military service and a career in security,” says De Stefani. One of the biggest joys he’s found at John Jay is being a part of the men’s volleyball team. “Being a student-athlete has enhanced my experience at school. I can always rely on my coaches and teammates for anything that I need support in—whether it’s academic or athletic, we’ve always got each other’s back.”

“Stephen earning this scholarship is truly an honor for him and the College,” says Richard Pusateri, Military and Veteran Services Manager. “The CSPI program pays tuition, fees, books, and medical care for the recipients and a very generous living benefit. After graduating, Stephen will attend the Coast Guard Officer Candidate School and be commissioned as a Coast Guard Officer.”
