Statement By President Travis Regarding Governor Cuomo’s Appointment Of Rossana Rosado As Secretary Of State

Congratulations to Rossana Rosado, Distinguished Lecturer in Latin American/Latina/o Studies at John Jay College, who has just been appointed as New York’s next Secretary of State by Gov. Andrew Cuomo!

Rossana’s appointment– which will make her our state’s highest-ranking Latina official – will be an invaluable asset for all New Yorkers. She brings to the position a wealth of experience and insight, from her award-winning 30-year media career, including her positions as Editor in Chief, Publisher and CEO of El Diario-La Prensa, to her service in New York City government as Vice President for Public Affairs of the Health and Hospitals Corporation. Most recently, she was appointed by Gov. Cuomo to serve as the chair of New York State’s Council on Community Re-Entry and Reintegration.

Rossana’s boundless energy and creativity, combined with her expertise in Latino affairs, ignited her passions for women’s leadership and prisoner reentry efforts, as well as her deep desire to serve students in a way that helped make John Jay a destination for thinkers, potential supporters and talent from the Latino community. Outside the classroom, she led the College’s Latino Initiative, and served as a trustee on the John Jay College Foundation board – a role in which she will continue.

We are so proud of Rossana’s remarkable accomplishments and wish her all the best in her new appointment, and look forward to working with her in the future.
