Steven Titan
Newest VP Adds Up

Steven Titan, a Certified Public Accountant and former top official with the College Board, has joined the John Jay executive staff as the new Vice President for Finance and Administration.

Titan comes to John Jay after 16 years with the College Board, where he served as President and Treasurer and transformed it from a fiscally struggling organization to a financially stable and growing institution. Previously, he was Chief Financial Officer of the Health Insurance Plan of Greater New York, a $2-billion HMO with more than 200 employees.

“Steve is superbly qualified for this important responsibility,” said President Jeremy Travis in announcing the appointment. “His accomplishments across several domains — budgeting, information technology, human resources — demonstrate that Steve’s skills extend far beyond those of a traditional CFO.  This breadth of his expertise will serve him well as our Vice President for Finance and Administration.”

Titan’s achievements, Travis continued, “also speak to a level of professional commitment to the mission of this important organization, which went through challenging times and has emerged stronger than ever.”

With the College Board, Titan managed the development and implementation of an e-commerce platform for the SAT that saved $3 million annually, generating funds that were used to support the SAT fee-waiver program for low-income students. He also helped to develop the ACCUPLACER system, a test used by community colleges to determine college readiness. The test is now used in several states, and has been adopted statewide in Texas, and will soon be implemented by the City University.

“Steve’s experience will be enormously valuable,” said Travis. “He also comes with a strong reputation for quiet leadership and collaborative decision-making.”

Titan holds a B.A. in Accounting from Syracuse, and is a graduate of the Cornell University Executive Development Program. He has run at least 19 New York City Marathons (and five more elsewhere) and more than 100 triathlons.
