John Jay alumna Lovely Warren (B.A. ’00), Mayor of Rochester, NY, was recently honored as a Distinguished Alumnus by The City University of New York. Chancellor James B. Milliken presented the award to Mayor Warren, as well as other prominent CUNY alumni, at the annual CUNY and Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Legislative Caucus Luncheon/Program on February 13.

At John Jay, Mayor Warren majored in government, and was a graduate of the Percy E. Sutton SEEK (Search for Education, Elevation and Knowledge) Program, which commemorates its 50th anniversary this year. Mayor Warren also earned a law degree at Albany Law School. In 2014, she was sworn in as Rochester’s 67th mayor – the first female mayor in the city’s history, its second African-American mayor, and the youngest in modern times. During her tenure, she has focused on improving education, creating more jobs, improving community-police relations and bringing safer, more vibrant neighborhoods to Rochester, where she was born and raised.
