John Jay’s Division of Professional Studies Garners Award for Programming

The John Jay College Division of Professional Studies’ Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) Program has received a Continuing Education Association of New York (CEANY) award for programming. The award recognizes the outstanding work of CIT team members Terry Lynn, Senior Director of Professional Studies; Fern Chan, Deputy Director; Diana Falkenbach, Professor of Psychology at John Jay;  Lieutenant Mark Turner of the New York City Police Department; and all John Jay faculty and staff who have worked on the training program titled  Managing Situations Involving Emotionally Disturbed Persons (EDP).

The EDP program has been carefully designed to train NYPD members of various ranks who would come into contact with emotionally disturbed persons in the course of performing their duties. The program helps participants develop crisis intervention and communication skills to effectively manage situations involving EDPs in order to ensure positive outcomes.

The Division of Professional Studies at John Jay provides quality education and training to professionals in Law Enforcement, Corrections, Intelligence, Emergency Services, and Fire to ensure that those who are charged with public safety and security receive the most up-to-date training in response to current events. The programs and courses are taught by practitioners in the field, current and former NYPD Academy staff, and former special agents from various government agencies (CIA, DEA, FBI, and DHS). FDNY members, as well as renowned John Jay faculty, bring together real-life experience and in-depth research to establish current best practices in the field.
