John Jay Ranked Among the Safest College Campuses in the U.S. and a Top Public University in New York

John Jay College has been ranked #18 in the Safest College Campuses rankings by Niche, a web-based resource for information, including rankings and reviews, on K-12 schools, colleges, cities, and neighborhoods. John Jay was also ranked #9 on Niche’s list of Top Public Universities in New York. John Jay was among 1,713 public and private four-year colleges and universities in the United States assessed for each ranking.

According to Niche, “The Safest College Campuses ranking is based a comprehensive assessment of the health and safety of a college campus. This grade takes into account key factors such as campus crime rate, local crime rate, and student reviews in an attempt to measure the overall state of campus safety.”

Niche’s 2016 Top Public Universities ranking took into account key statistics and student reviews used to assess the total quality of the education and experience provided by each college. “The top ranked public colleges are elite academic institutions that provide a good value for in-state students and offer an exceptional college experience. “

John Jay students were surveyed about their experiences on campus for both rankings. In regard to health and safety, a student comment featured on the Niche website states, “There is a lot of awareness on campus when it comes to campus safety. We have a lot of events in the health center, which helps students throughout the semester and provides counseling and other health services.”

Business Insider, a business and technology news website, reported on the health and safety rankings stating that, “Schools with high health and safety scores and low crime, among other factors, were ranked safest by Niche.”

John Jay has earned recognition among colleges and universities across the U.S. in recent college rankings. John Jay ranked fourth in the “Best Bang for the Buck” rankings in the Northeast region by Washington Monthly magazine’s 2015 College Guide; in the Top 10 Colleges whose graduates have the least student debt by U.S. News & World Report; and the M.P.A. programs were among the top five, and the criminal justice graduate program was rated in the top 15 by GraduatePrograms.com.

John Jay was also ranked number-one overall as a best-value college for a criminal justice degree in the U.S. by bestvalueschools.com. In CollegeNet’s new ranking system that rated colleges based on promoting economic mobility for students, and John Jay made the list at #61.
