John Jay College Ranked #4 in the “Best Bang for the Buck” Northeast Rankings in Washington Monthly’s "The Other College Guide"

March 25, 2015, New York, NY – John Jay College ranked #4 in the “Best Bang for the Buck” rankings in the Northeast region of The Other College Guide: A Road Map to the Right School for You published by Washington Monthly.

The publication notes that unlike most popular rankings that measure “how rich, prestigious and exclusive colleges are,” these rankings show students which schools are “the best value for your money based on "net" (not sticker) price, how well they do graduating the students they admit, and whether those students go on to earn at least enough to pay off their loans.”

The new book is intended to provide guidance to help students find the right schools for them based on practical data and information about “which schools will charge you a fair price and not bury you in debt.” Washington Monthly has built a reputation for publishing rankings that go beyond the typical categories and illuminate affordability benefits and service contributions. A few other City University of New York schools appear in the top 10 ranked schools, including Baruch, Lehman and Queens colleges.

President Jeremy Travis states: “This new ranking, placing John Jay among the best colleges for value in the Northeast, reflects the progress we have made over the past decade to achieve senior college status, expand our liberal arts majors, strengthen existing majors, and adopt a cutting edge General Education program that engages and challenges our students."

This ranking comes on the heels of another top listing for John Jay College – in the Top 10 Colleges on the U.S. News list of graduates with least student debt. Only 20 percent of John Jay students borrowed money to attend college, while the vast majority graduated debt-free.

As part of the CUNY system, John Jay College has one of the lowest tuition fees among public colleges and universities in the nation, starting at $6,030 a year for in-state full-time students. Affordability and access for all hardworking students who strive to complete their higher education degree at John Jay are essential aspects of the College’s core mission.
