John Jay College Named Fulbright HSI Leader For Second Year In A Row

(New York, NY)-- For the second year in a row, John Jay College of Criminal Justice was named a Fulbright HSI Leader for its activities as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) that encourages its students to take part in international educational experiences.

“Our status as a Hispanic-Serving and Minority-Serving Institution is a badge of honor that reflects the diversity of our campus. Enhancing that education with the global perspective afforded by a Fulbright award is an important part of our mission to provide access and opportunity to all our students,” says John Jay College President Karol V. Mason. “We are proud that, for the second year in a row, Fulbright recognizes our commitment to our Latinx students.”

“Many Black and Brown college students don’t consider international study a realistic option, but I know from personal experience that it’s not only possible, but also can be an integral part of your growth and development as a person,” says Charles Davidson, Assistant Dean of Student Professional Advancement and Fulbright Program Advisor. “Now, with the initial obstacles laid out by Covid-19 behind us, we are happy to see our students again applying for Fulbright awards.”

The Fulbright recognition comes after several other accolades. Hispanic Outlook magazine ranked John Jay the top HSI nationwide for enrolling students in Homeland Security, Law Enforcement, Firefighting, and Protective Services. While U.S. News & World Report ranked the college #4 for Least Debt, #8 for Social Mobility, and the #10 Public College in the North.
