The 2019 rankings of top public colleges and universities reaffirm John Jay College’s standing among the best, particularly when it comes to quality education at an affordable price and to propelling student social mobility.

The US News and World Report placed John Jay in the Top 30 Best Public Universities North rankings. The publication also listed the College at the #2 spot for schools where students graduate with the least debt and in the Top 10 Performers on Social Mobility among regional universities in the north.

The Chronicle of Higher Education placed John Jay College at the #5 spot for Colleges with the Highest Student-Mobility Rates. In addition, the publication ranked the College #7 among “Colleges with the Greatest Racial and Ethnic Diversity among Managers.” The Chronicle’s “diversity index indicates on a scale of 1 to 100 the probability that any two full-time managers at an institution were from different racial or ethnic groups in the fall of 2017.”

Money Magazine ranked John Jay among the Top 100 schools in the country, based on measures of educational quality, affordability, and alumni success. Specific factors included six-year graduation rates, number of Pell Grant recipients graduating, student debt, alumni salary data from PayScale, as well as social mobility data.

The Washington Monthly placed John Jay among the Top 30 for the publication’s “Best Bang for the Buck” rankings in the northeast, which are based on social mobility data and how well the colleges “help non-wealthy students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices.”

The Hispanic Outlook on Education magazine ranked John Jay’s Criminal Justice program #1 in the nation for top schools by major. The College came in at #60 among the top 100 colleges with the largest Hispanic student enrollment.   

John Jay College was featured in several website listings of best colleges for its academic offerings:

CollegeChoice.Net ranked John Jay College #1 as the best undergraduate degree in criminal justice in the country. The website recognized John Jay’s offering as the best among “those programs that are the country’s absolute best at training leaders in law enforcement and criminology.” 

Niche.com also ranked John Jay as #1, naming it “Best College for Criminal Justice in America.” The ranking is based on key statistics and student reviews using data from the U.S. Department of Education. 

Universities.com placed John Jay at #3 among the Best Forensic Science Colleges in the U.S. The website’s rankings are based on data from “government sources, student surveys, college graduate interviews, and editorial review.”

CollegeConsensus.com included John Jay among the “100 Most Affordable Colleges and Universities for 2019.” The online publication bills itself as the college review aggregator that combines results from key college rankings and student reviews.

Once again, BestColleges.com placed John Jay College among the Top 10 Best Online Colleges in New York. The website assesses education quality based on “academic outcomes, affordability, and the breadth and depth of online learning opportunities.

The OnlineMasters.com website ranked John Jay #1 among best online master’s in Emergency Management programs, citing it as “best for federal careers.”

The Online-Psychology-Degrees.org website ranked John Jay’s Forensic Psychology program at #8 among the 29 most affordable master’s programs in this area.

CollegeFactual.com ranked John Jay in the Top 10 nationally for Best Criminal Justice and Criminology programs for returning adults and non-traditional students. The website also featured John Jay in the Top 1% of colleges in the country in several of their lists: “Top Ranked” and “Most Popular for Criminal Justice,” “Top Ranked” and “Most Popular for Homeland Security, Law Enforcement, Firefighting,” and as a “Top Ranked for Veterans” school. These rankings are outcomes focused and based primarily on Payscale data, which they use to compare the average earnings for graduates of each major and estimate “an overall average ‘boost’ given to graduates’ earning power at each college.”

Earlier in the year, the College was designated a “Military Friendly School with Bronze distinction” by Viqtory Media and recognized as an institution that has “exceptional military/veteran programs.”
