John Jay College Achieves High Rankings in 2020

John Jay College is recognized again in several 2020 rankings by major print and online publications for being a leader in providing access to quality education at an affordable price, and in propelling low-income students into the middle class.

The US News and World Report placed John Jay in the Top 20 Best Public Universities North rankings. The publication also listed the College in the Top 20 Most Innovative Schools and Top 20 Performers on Social Mobility among regional universities in the north.

Money Magazine ranked John Jay in the Top 120 value colleges of over 700 schools in the country, based on measures of educational quality, affordability, and alumni success. Specific factors included six-year graduation rates, number of Pell Grant recipients graduating, student debt, alumni salary data from PayScale, as well as social mobility data.

The Washington Monthly placed John Jay in the Top 20 for the publication’s “Best Bang for the Buck” rankings in the Northeast, which are based on social mobility data and how well the colleges “help non-wealthy students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices.” John Jay also placed #55 in the top master’s degree-granting university rankings based on social mobility, research, and promoting public service.

The Hispanic Outlook on Education magazine ranked John Jay’s Security, Police Studies and Fire Science programs as #1 in the top schools by major for Hispanics. The College came in at #38 in the top 100 colleges granting bachelor’s degrees to Hispanics, and was #59 among the top 100 colleges with the largest Hispanic student enrollment.  

CollegeConsensus.com included John Jay among the “Best Colleges in New York and Best Online Colleges in New York for 2020.” The online publication bills itself as the college review aggregator that combines results from key college rankings and student reviews.

CollegeChoice.Net ranked John Jay College #1 as the best undergraduate degree in criminal justice in the country. The website recognized John Jay’s offering as the best among “those programs that are the country’s absolute best at training leaders in law enforcement and criminology.” 

Niche.com ranked John Jay #3 for “Best College for Criminal Justice in America.” The ranking is based on key statistics and student reviews using data from the U.S. Department of Education. 

Universities.com also placed John Jay at #3 among the Best Forensic Science Colleges in the U.S. The website’s rankings are based on data from “government sources, student surveys, college graduate interviews, and editorial review.”

CollegeConsensus.com ranked John Jay in the top 20 of the “100 Most Affordable Colleges and Universities for 2020.” The online publication bills itself as the college review aggregator that combines results from key college rankings and student reviews.

The OnlineMasters.com website ranked John Jay in the top 20 of the best online master’s in Emergency Management programs, citing it as “best for accelerated classes.”

CollegeFactual.com featured John Jay in the Top 1% of colleges in the country in several of their lists: “Most Popular for Criminal Justice,” “Most Popular for Homeland Security, Law Enforcement, Firefighting,” “Best for Returning Adults in Homeland Security,” and as a “Top Ranked for Veterans” school. These rankings are outcomes focused and based primarily on Payscale data, which they use to compare the average earnings for graduates of each major and estimate “an overall average ‘boost’ given to graduates’ earning power at each college.”

John Jay was designated a “Military Friendly School with Bronze distinction for 2020” by Viqtory Media, based on six categories which includes academic policies, military student support, graduation and career outcomes.
