Emmy-Award Winning Poet and Performer Suzen Baraka will screen her short film, My Asian, and share her story of growing up Black and Korean in America. Her film “highlights the horrific miscarriages of justice that Asian-Americans and Asians in America are, and have historically been subjected to: from day-to-day micro-aggressions to actual acts of violence and terror against members of our community.”
Following the film, internationally renowned spoken word artist and John Jay Associate Professor of Africana Studies Crystal Endsley Taylor will use poetry and creative writing to connect the film with our own explorations of identity and anti-hatred.
Light refreshments will be available. All are welcome!
