30th Anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995-2025)
Advocacy, Policy, Research and Action
A Community Event Series at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in collaboration with the NGO Committee on the Status of Women.
The World Conference on Women of 1995 in Beijing was a watershed for the global women’s movement. More than 50,000 people from 189 countries attended the conference. Simultaneously, approximately thirty miles away from Beijing, in Huairou, an NGO Forum was held, encompassing more than 3,000 sessions. This widely attended conference produced the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action as its outcome document, the product of the synergy between civil society activists and the political will of member states of the United Nations. Since 1995, the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action has served to guide the work of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).
Join us to reflect on the world's most progressive blueprint for gender equality and engage in dialogue about the future.
