External Affairs Student Engagement

John Jay Office of External Affairs Ambassador Program

Academic Year 2024-2025

We are looking for future leaders, innovators and community builders

The Office of External Affairs has created a student ambassador program to engage students in its work to elevate the College, build and sustain relationships, and curate support and funding from external stakeholders, especially public sector and civic leaders. See the Mission of the Office of External Affairs here.

This program is for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in expanding their knowledge, building professional skills and learning about leadership, strategic and event planning, and public policy work. We are looking for students who have the desire to make a difference at their college and within their community and to drive and influence the engagement of their peers.

Students will benefit from connecting with a variety of professionals including public and non-profit leaders who support John Jay’s mission and values of justice and equity, in addition to interacting with college administrators. They will also experience programming on a wide range of topics and learn from hands-on experiences.

A student ambassador’s role will vary depending upon the activities during the academic year. We anticipate students greeting and liaising with public officials, helping to plan and support the logistics for remote and on-campus programming, tabling at college and community events, assisting with outreach for events, attending public hearings, serving as focus-group participants, and liaising with departments across the College. Student ambassadors will help showcase our scholarship and vibrant and diverse college community in different settings.

We acknowledge that students are very busy with numerous demands and responsibilities. Therefore, the program is flexible with tasks, time commitments and opportunities. All students will be supported by the staff of the Office External Affairs to inspire growth in skills and confidence. Additional program details will be communicated via an orientation session after a student is admitted into the program. Interest students must submit a letter or email of interest and a current resume for consideration. Please submit all materials to: externalaffairs@jjay.cuny.edu. Questions can also be directed to that email. Applicants will be considered on a rolling basis.

During the year students will be eligible for some non-monetary benefits and John Jay merchandise, depending upon the level of commitment and engagement.

We hope you join us!
