Eliana Forero, JD, MS, Director, Research Compliance and Integrity

Eliana Forero joined the Office for the Advancement of Research as Director of Research Compliance and Integrity in 2023. Eliana oversees research compliance activities and provides training and guidance on topics related to the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP), Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR), Research Agreements, Conflict of Interest, Export Control and other areas.  She serves as John Jay’s Research Integrity Officer (RIO), HRPP Coordinator, and Research Agreements Point Person.  Eliana provides crucial support to John Jay faculty, staff and student researchers as they navigate the compliance landscape and conduct research with integrity. 

Eliana holds a JD from CUNY School of Law with a focus on Intellectual Property Law; MS in Research Bioethics from Union Graduate College / Mount Sinai School of Medicine; and BA from Sarah Lawrence College.  Eliana has over a decade of research ethics and compliance experience and extensive experience conducting research in DNA damage and stem cell biology.

Eliana is the main contact at John Jay for questions, consultations and training related to research regulations, CUNY and John Jay research policies and procedures, and best practices, including:

  • Human subjects research determinations
  • IRB processes and procedures
  • Responsible conduct of research
  • Research misconduct allegations
  • Research agreements not related to funding (data use agreements, IRB Authorization Agreements, MOUs, NDAs, etc.)
  • NIJ Privacy Certificates
  • Outside researcher requests to recruit or conduct research at John Jay
  • Research policies and procedures
  • Training on research ethics, policies and procedures
