Department of Public Management - Administration
Jason D. Rivera is an associate professor and chair of the department of public management. He earned his PhD from Rutgers University – Camden in public affairs with a specialization in community development. Jason’s research focuses on the intersection of public administration, emergency management, and social equity. In addition to serving as chair of the department, he is also the current chair of the Section on Crisis and Emergency Management in ASPA.
As Operations Manager, Lisa oversees office operations and possesses extensive knowledge of our multi-college system. Since 2009, she's served as an Adjunct Lecturer for the department while also contributing her expertise as the Administrative Assistant to the Academy of Critical Incident Analysis (ACIA) for a decade. Lisa holds a B.S. in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology, an MPA with a Specialization in Management and Operations and Human Resource Management. She is a proud member of Pi Alpha Alpha (PAA), the Global Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration.
Yvonne W. Purdie boasts a remarkable 30-year tenure at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She's held pivotal roles including Chief of Operations for the Vice President of Student Affairs and Deputy Director of Human Resources. Currently, as Director of Undergraduate Student Services in the Department of Public Management and an Adjunct Lecturer, she plays a vital role in student support and education. Yvonne serves as the Major Advisor for several programs including Criminal Justice Management, Fraud Examination, Financial Forensics, and Public Administration, and advises on minors and certificates in Accounting and Public Administration. With a BS in Legal Studies and an MPA specializing in Human Resources from John Jay College, she brings a wealth of expertise to her work. Yvonne is also a Certified General Topics Trainer accredited by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services Municipal Police Training Council.
Joseph Mahmud is the academic assessment manager for the MPA Program. He oversees assessment and accreditation, program recruitment, budgeting, and stakeholder engagement. Joseph is also an adjunct lecturer in the Department of Public Management and SHRM Chapter Advisor for John Jay College. He is a member of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA), Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Project Management Institute (PMI), and Pi Alpha Alpha (PAA).
Alicia Majid is a College Assistant in the Department of Public Management at John Jay College, where she provides vital administrative support and project coordination for the Operations Manager. She holds a bachelor's degree in Public Administration and an Advanced Certificate in Project Management from the CUNY School of Professional Studies. Alicia is currently pursuing her Master of Public Administration (MPA) with a specialization in Management and Operations. She recently completed a Summer Council Internship with the Office of Council Member Dr. Nantasha Williams, further enhancing her experience in public service.
