The CUNY Inclusive Economy Initiative, Sciences or CIE Sciences is open to all STEM students majoring in Cellular & Molecular Biology, Toxicology, and Forensic Science. The goal of CIE is to provide students support with professional and life-skills development and an introduction to paid internships and employment opportunities in their chosen fields.

Sciences Hybrid Advisor, Julie Kiss and Industry Employment and Internship Specialist, Betty Robinson work together as a team in the support of the CIE Sciences cohort.

The Hybrid Advisor is dedicated to both Academic and Career advisement, supporting CIE members through group activities, 1:1 advising and introducing them to professional and life skills instruction which include:

  • Creation and development of resumes, CVs, cover letters, professional emails, interview preparation and assistance in completing paid internship and employment applications.

The Industry Specialist is responsible for developing partnerships and opportunities with employment and paid internship partners that specialize in the field of life sciences, with the goal to bring opportunities and on-campus events to the CIE Sciences cohort. Current partnerships include but are not limited to:

  • Dept. of Health & Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) 
  • New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS)

  • Life Science Cares New York

  • CUNY Office of Economic Affairs

  • Navis Clinical Laboratories 
  • Oakridge Institute for Science and Education 
  • Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center 
  • NYU Langone Health

The Hybrid Advisor and Industry Employment and internship Specialist together follow up on employment and paid internship applications submitted by students to ensure they are given the utmost consideration.

Our ultimate goal is to increase the percentage of John Jay Science students securing paid internships and full-time job offers by the time of graduation at competitive salaries. 

All Science majors are encouraged to become a member of CIE Sciences.
