International Student Application

We welcome students from around the world. Here's how to apply.
  1. Explore our majors and minors.

  2. Attend a virtual international student info session: Mon, Wed & Thurs 10a-12p & Tues 3p-5pm (passcode johnjay)

  3. Take a virtual campus tour.

  4. Submit your application. Register for a CUNY account and apply. Supporting documents should be sent to CUNY, not John Jay.

  5. If you are a citizen of a country where English is not the official language, take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Send your scores directly to CUNY Admissions. Our code is 2950.

A score of 500 is required for the paper-based test, 173 for the computer-based test and 61 for the internet based test. You can also take the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) PTE Academic or Duolingo. A score of six is required on the IELTS, 44 on the PTE Academic or 90 on Duolingo.

Please note: Successful completion of an English Composition course with a grade of C or higher at an accredited U.S. institution of higher education exempts you from the TOEFL/IELTS requirement.
