SASP Peer Application

Please read the following information carefully. There are multiple dates & deadlines that you should make note of. We look forward to reading your application!

Position Description

Primary Duties

  • Provides support to freshmen, sophomores, and transfer students in the following SASP Programs: Adelante!, APPLE Corps, Early Start, First Year and Transfer Seminars, and other Academic Journey initiatives
  • Provides support to students and faculty in select courses through weekly class visits and various communication methods
  • Conducts individual and group peer success coaching sessions during which students work through plans to achieve their identified goals
  • Helps students navigate the college environment and its resources, and assists them as they transition to college life
  • Makes appropriate referrals to other departments and resources, as necessary.
  • Provides support to prospective/incoming John Jay students
  • Represents John Jay College and Student Academic Success Programs at all times.
  • Serves as a positive role model for new and continuing students
  • Performs related duties as assigned

Additional Duties:

  • Facilitates success workshops and study sessions
  • Promotes SASP and college services on social media
  • Assists with development of materials for the SASP website and related publications

Minimum qualifications and requirements

  • Be a full-time undergraduate John Jay student
  • Maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Earned between 15 and 90 credits
  • Work 10 hours per week between 8:00am-5:30pm during the semester
  • Meet with assigned caseload of 25-75  students one-on-one at least once per semester
  • Attend all trainings and staff meetings
  • Enroll in the mandatory Counseling and Human Services Training Courses in Fall  and Spring

  • Committed to self-growth and going outside of your comfort zone
  • Motivated to work with and contribute to the success of a large team
  • Enthusiasm for promoting events and creating buy-in for programs and initiatives
  • Familiarity with John Jay services and resources

Compensation
Starts at $15.00 per hour for 10 hours per week (outside of course work)
