Undergraduate Research Program
Q: What is the Research Experience Program?
A: The Research Experience Program is an effort to involve Introductory Psychology students with psychology research. Participation in the studies will give students experience with applications of psychology to the real world and hypothesis formation and research methodology more generally. In addition, student subjects serve as the subject pool for many research programs at John Jay. Ten percent of a student's grade is contingent on that student's successful completion of 10 hours (20 credits) of psychology research over the course of the semester.
Q: What is the Research Experience Program website?
A: To log in to the Research Experience Program, go to http://jjay.sona-systems.com.
Q: How do I find my username and password?
A. Your username is “firstname.lastname” and your password is “lastname”. For example, John Doe’s username would be “john.doe” and his password would be “doe”. Any questions about usernames and passwords or problems logging into the system should be directed to the Research Experience Program Coordinator at rep@jjay.cuny.edu.
Q: I completed a study but have not received credit yet. What should I do?
A: Please allow your researcher a full week and a half after the completion of the study to award you credit. After this point, if credit has still not been awarded, you will need to contact the Research Experience Program Coordinator (rep@jjay.cuny.edu) by email and include your full name, the study name, and the date of participation. Also, if you are sending the email from an email address other than your @jjay.cuny.edu address, please include your John Jay email address. PLEASE NOTE: When participating in an experiment, it is a good idea to have the researcher sign your consent form and retain a copy for your own records. This will help resolve any disputes about attendance later on in the semester.
Q: I missed a study, or I know I will be unable to attend a study but it is too late to cancel. What should I do?
A: Please send an email to the researcher listed (NOT the REP Coordinator) with your full name, the study name, and the reason for your absence. You can find the researcher’s name and email address by clicking on the study description in the Research Experience Program’s website.
Q: How can I change my password and/or email address?
A. After logging in to the website, click on “My Profile”. Here you may change your password and update your email address.
Q: I signed up for a study but I can’t remember the room number. What should I do?
A. You can find the study room number by logging in to the website and clicking on “My Schedule/Credits”. Under the “Study Sign Ups” section, you will find the names and room numbers for the studies you have signed up for. Print this page to avoid confusion on the day of your study. Please DO NOT inquire about study locations with professors in the Psychology Department.
Any additional problems or questions should be directed to the Research Experience Program Director & Coordinator at rep@jjay.cuny.edu.
