DBT Workshop
Date: Friday 12/6
Time: 9am-4pm
Location: Provided after registration (see link below)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive cognitive behavioral treatment. Originally developed to treat individuals who suffered from chronic suicide and self-harm, DBT is now recognized as a transdiagnostic treatment. Increasingly, DBT is used in the criminal justice system to treat youth with interpersonal violence and criminality. Dr. Galietta has developed the Juvenile Justice adaptation for DBT and has helped numerous states to implement DBT in juvenile justice settings. The primary focus of this one-day workshop will provide a thorough overview of DBT and its use in Juvenile Justice. Participants will learn about the components of comprehensive DBT, the research supporting its use, and current states using DBT, Additionally, the second half of the day will involve the skills component of DBT. Trainees will learn about DBT Skills groups. Selected essential skills in each of the modules (mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness) will be taught as well as a few skills for substance abuse. Throughout the workshop, didactic presentation will alternate with experiential practice. The workshop will conclude with discussion of strategies for successful implementation of DBT. There are limited slots, so RSVP ASAP!
