Mission Statement
Teaching & Learning Center

The Teaching & Learning Center at John Jay College of Criminal Justice is dedicated to recognizing excellence in teaching and learning, supporting social justice and equity in public urban higher education, and to providing mentoring, resources, and opportunities that enable faculty, staff, and students to engage with and enhance teaching and learning.

Effective, practical, and successful teaching and learning take many forms and draw from many value systems as well as disciplinary emphases. Find resources here that include 21 pdfs of definitions, strategies, readings, and resources sites that we have organized under seven categories of teaching and learning. The PDF files are meant to provide introductions to these areas of teaching and encourage further exploration. Please feel free to suggest additional categories and resources as you explore.

Teaching and learning virtually present special challenges and opportunities. Find resources here that  address a variety of faculty and staff needs for information and resources. Please email us at TLC@jjay.cuny.edu with questions and suggestions.

Find resources here for those interested in understanding and working with ChatGPT. A separate page on AI and Teaching can be found here. Please feel free to email additional resources and questions to the TLC (TLC@jjay.cuny.edu).

In this time of outrage and injustice and grief, we are responsible to our students for teaching racial justice both through content and practice. Find resources here that represent a few of those we feel are focused on truth, empowerment, and change in the ongoing efforts to create and achieve racial justice.

Questions about accessible course design? Looking for guidance on providing accommodations? Interested in the differences between accessible teaching and learning in person and online? Find resources here for policies, examples, and guidance.

We are increasingly aware of the role wellbeing plays in teaching and learning for all engaged in our learning communities. Find resources here with a list of resources and recommendations that can be embedded in course design, class activities, and our professional and personal lives. A new page of mental health and teaching resources can be found here.

We welcome interest in joining these teams and are particularly appreciative of positions and perspectives that allow us to better support the many identities and interests of our nominated faculty.
