The Advanced Certificate in Criminal Investigation program is designed for students who wish to conduct research; join agencies concerned with criminal investigation at the local, state, or federal levels; or become members of agencies concerned with methods and ethical obligations for the gathering of evidence and the interpretation of Constitutional guarantees.

The Advanced Certificate in Terrorism Studies program, offered by the Master of Arts in Criminal Justice program in collaboration with the Center on Terrorism, provides students with advanced instruction related to the causes and prevention of terrorist activities. This certificate is appropriate for students who wish to conduct research; become homeland security professionals at local, state or federal levels; or join American and/or international agencies focused on counter-terrorism.

The Advanced Certificate in Crime Prevention and Analysis program provides advanced instruction in techniques for deterring crime. The program also offers instruction in quantitative, computer-based skills needed to analyze crime patterns to develop strategies that can be employed in reducing crime. The certificate is appropriate for students whose career objectives include crime pattern analysis in public or private sector agencies.

The Advanced Certificate in Race and Criminal Justice program offers advanced instruction on contemporary law and history of race relations in four critical areas of expertise: law, criminology, policing, and penology. The Advanced Certificate in Race and Criminal Justice is appropriate for students who wish to engage in research; become public or private security professionals at local, state or federal levels; or join U.S. agencies concerned with civil rights and criminal justice.

The CAD4SCI program of study provides four graduate computer science courses (12 credits) on the science of digital forensics followed by a practical Digital Forensic Science Qualifying Exam. These courses blend study of theory and method with practical hands-on application. The certificate is awarded to students who complete the four courses with grades of B or better and who score a grade of Pass or better on the exam.
The CSIBridge computer science preparatory program entails four courses (12 credits) offered at the graduate level. The first two are intensive, semester-long foundations courses that provide a survey of core computer science tailored to digital forensics. One foundations course considers operating systems, computer architecture and networks while the other covers programming and math essentials. The two foundations courses are followed by two developmental core courses in the degree program. Students who complete these four courses with grades of B or better transfer to the degree program and may receive a CSIBridge certificate.
The advanced certificate program offers advanced instruction related to theory, legal structure, federal doctrine, and practice of emergency management. The advanced certificate addresses the five phases of emergency management: prepare, respond, recover, mitigate, and prevent. It includes courses that deal with the history of emergency management and disasters, legal frameworks and intergovernmental aspects of emergency management, and the role of private and non-profit organizations in disaster response. The program incorporates preparation for, response to, and recovery from natural, as well as man-made, disasters. Both public and private perspectives are recognized. Students must complete the introductory course, three courses in advanced emergency management topics and the 1-credit seminar course.
In this graduate advanced certificate program, students will learn to solve existent problems and drive mission impact through social innovation and entrepreneurship. Students will address key social problems in their communities or in the world by developing and launching a social enterprise idea. Courses in the program will teach financial insights and language of funding, prototyping, scaling, marketing, and measuring impact of social enterprises and innovations. Students will develop impactful social enterprise ideas and operational models by learning business and financial structures of existing organizations that apply social innovation tools and frameworks.
The Advanced Certificate in Victimology Studies aims to develop specialized knowledge in the area of interpersonal victimization in a forensic psychology context. Areas covered include, but are not limited to, interpersonal violence and victimization such as domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, child abuse, sex and labor trafficking, and hate crimes.
This certificate was developed to permit applicants with a clinical graduate degree to receive additional forensic training and focus on the subspecialty of their choice. The postgraduate certificate is designed primarily for those applicants who have already received a master’s or a doctoral degree in psychology, social work, counseling or a related field. The postgraduate certificate is not designed to lead to licensure in any of the mental health professions. However, students who have applied for licensure and have been requested by state licensing boards to take additional courses, may find some of these courses available in the certificate program.
The educational goal of the Advanced Certificate in Forensic Accounting program is to prepare students for professional careers in accounting with special focus on the investigation of fraud. The curriculum is designed to meet the content standards of the Association of Inspectors General and the coursework requirements of CPA 150. The student will receive the Advanced Certificate in Forensic Accounting upon completion of the additional requirements of the certificate as specified in the Official Program of Study, including the four required courses, the two additional required courses within the MPA program, and any other requirements necessary to satisfy CPA 150.
The Advanced Certificate Program is articulated with the Inspector General track of the Master of Public Administration program.
The Advanced Certificate in Health Care Inspection and Oversight will help prepare students for careers in the assessment, monitoring, regulation, auditing and investigation of health care organizations and service providers.
This advanced certificate consists of courses offered by the Master of Public Administration - Inspection and Oversight program. This is a stand-alone certificate at the post-baccalaureate level, and students may pursue it independently or while pursuing a master's degree at John Jay. The program is offered fully online.
The Advanced Certificate in Transnational Organized Crime Studies (ACTOCS) offers advanced instruction on the nature, dynamics, causes, and control of those crime phenomena that pose a challenge to more than one country and call for international cooperation. It examines the nature and etiology of established as well as emerging transnational organized criminal groups and criminal activities. The focus is on illegal cross-border trade such as the trafficking in drugs, counterfeit medicine, and humans; transnational predatory crimes such as cross-border serial burglary; international environmental crimes; money laundering, corruption, and cybercrime; networks of offenders involved in these crimes and their terrestrial and virtual mobility; and factors that facilitate and shape transnational crime, including technology, international travel, trade, and migration.
This advanced certificate program is appropriate for students who wish to engage in research, join law enforcement agencies at national or international levels, or seek employment at public or private international organizations.
This is a stand-alone certificate at the graduate level. A student may pursue the advanced certificate independent of a master’s program or while pursuing a John Jay master’s degree. Students who successfully complete the program are awarded a New York State Education Department certificate.
