Student Success Vision

student-pics5

We educate fierce advocates for justice. We’re proud of our students who graduate and enter impactful careers, and we know that there are talented students who do not complete their degree.

Student success is everyone’s responsibility and every John Jay student should have their own success story. Our community - students, faculty, staff, and key external partners - gathered to develop a shared vision of student success.

Our goal is to create a shared and transparent vision of undergraduate student success for the John Jay community and external stakeholders. We ask and seek to answer the following questions:

  • What do we mean by student success?
  • How will we measure progress?
  • What interventions are working well?
  • Where do we need to build evidence about what works?
  • What investments should we prioritize with our limited resources based on that evidence?

This vision is a work in progress that was shaped through broad community conversation and consultation and by strong leadership from the faculty. The ideas in the vision document have been, and will continue to be, shaped by input through online submissions and focus groups with students, faculty, staff, as well as meetings and conversations with:

  • the Student Council;
  • the Faculty Senate;
  • the Council of Chairs;
  • the Higher Education Officer (HEO) Council;
  • the Undergraduate Curriculum & Academic Standards Committee (UCASC);
  • the winners of the Distinguished Teaching Prize;
  • all academic departments and College divisions, including Student Academic Success Programs (SASP);
  • the President, Vice Presidents, and Deans;
  • the John Jay College Foundation Board of Trustees; and
  • CUNY, key partners, alumni, and other stakeholders.

We thank the campus community for their support and engagement in this work. The many conversations across our campus which have led to this vision have helped us develop a shared understanding of where we are, where we are going and the tools we will need to get there.

Supplementary Data

One aim of this project is to create a common baseline and set ambitious but achievable goals for promoting ALL students' success as fierce advocates for justice in a document that is transparent to the entire community. We are working on new data tools, and have also developed new visualizations of our data to make it more accessible to our community. View updated data.
